The Bass Federation of Kansas (TBFKS), in partnership with the Russell County Economic Development Convention and Visitors Bureau hosted the 2013 Youth Tournament on Saturday, May 18th.  It was held at Wilson Lake at Sylvan KS with two age groups.  Both winners will move on to the Junior World Championship near Shreveport LA in August.

Saturday’s weather started out foggy and misty as take-off was approaching. The anglers were more than eager to hit the water. As the day progressed the fog and mist left the area leaving cloudy skies which turned partly sunny and set the stage for storms that evening. Water temperatures were close to that magic spring time spawn. All anglers reported catching fish shallow and lots of them. Reports of 50+ fish per boat and several fish per boat were in the 40’s. I would say the bite was on. Tournament hours were safe light with a 1:00pm weigh-in. All of the

youth, boaters and parents were provided lunch by TBFKS when the arrived back at the ramp.

In the 15 - 18 Age Group, Christian Hamel, pictured on the left above, from Stockton KS, took 1st place with a limit of 5 fish and a total of 1296 points. Larry Freesemann TBFKS President (center), 2nd place went to Steven Reeves, pictured on the right above, from Clearwater KS with 5 fish and a total of 1242 points.
