Ed Loughran – Mid-Atlantic Champion

September 24, 2010 – A late take-off this morning due to weather and safety issues sent some out with a rocky start.   Others were consistent with their five bass sacks and prevailed.  14 anglers advance today to the 2011 Federation National Championship to compete for their share of nearly a quarter of a million in cash and prizes.  The national champion will earn the chance to “Live the Dream” fishing on the FLW Pro circuit for a year all entry fees paid with use of a wrapped Ranger Boat and Chevrolet truck.  Today, nearly $19,000 was awarded to the state teams in prize money, trophies and Ranger Cup, Lowrance and big bass bonuses.

Clingenpeel Seizes Lead; West Virginia Looking for 3-Peat Sweep

JAY1_300September 23, 2010 – Jay Clingenpeel from Bridgeport, W.V., captured the lead today in the individual standings with the tournaments biggest stringer.  He had a limit that weighed 18lb 8ounces making his two-day total 27lb 4ounces.  Clingenpeel seems to have figured it out.   “Fishing today went really, really well,” Clingenpeel said.  “Between these two days I’ve put it together; I just hope they hold up again tomorrow.” Clingenpeel thanked his luck of the draw. “Both days I had great partners.  With TBF’s boater, non-boater system we really could just work together as a team out there, and that’s just what we did.”  He has never advanced to the Federation National Championship and his eyes are really on the prize.  “It’s been my dream; I really want to make it to nationals.” Tomorrow we’ll see if he’s got enough up his sleeve to do just that.

Many TBF anglers found solid keepers, while others came up short today in the Upper Chesapeake Bay.  Shifting tides and windy bouts threw the bite off, as day one of the 2010 TBF Mid-Atlantic Championship is underway in Perryville, Maryland on Susquehanna Flats. The pay-out for this contest is nearly $19,000 in prize money, trophies and Ranger Cup, Lowrance and big bass bonuses split between the state teams and their champions.  This week we will name an overall State Team and Divisional Champion.  Also, the top two from each of the seven divisions will advance to the 2011 Federation National Championship. There they will vie for the national titles and the chance to “Live the Dream” with entry fees and travel paid on the FLW Pro circuit for a year, including use of a wrapped Ranger boat and Chevrolet truck. Finding and wrangling them in a tidal water system under these conditions will be tough, but anglers know the stakes and are ready for round two.

The final day started off with a weather delay. Anglers were not able to launch until nearly 10:30 this morning, which makes up for about half the day lost. With it being the last day, and the tournament being close, this was a concern for anglers in contention to finish in the top 2 spots of their states, but not nearly the concern it was for TBF officials to make sure everyone returned to weigh-in safely, which they did.
