2011 Federation National Championship to showcase TBF’s elite, April 12-16, on Nickajack Lake

94 TBF Champions eagerly await the start of TBF’s premier event

Ponca City, Okla., (April 11, 2011) – Kimball, Tenn., will host the widely anticipated 2011 Federation National Championship, presented by the National Guard on Nickajack Lake.  For most, it is the trip of a lifetime, a process that started well over a year ago where grassroots anglers nationwide competed in seven TBF divisions to qualify for the no-entry fee 2010 TBF Division Championship Series. From there, the top two anglers from each state advance one boater and one co-angler, to compete in the no-entry fee 2011 Federation National Championship. The field also contains the Association of Collegiate Anglers (ACA) National Champions.  94 total championship anglers will face-off on Nickajack Lake, Thursday, April 14. Continue reading

Uranium mining in Virginia?

In the 1980’s uranium leases were filed on thousands of acres of land in Virginia. Two major veins of uranium were found in the Cole’s Hill, near Chatham, VA not far from the North Carolina border. Test indicated that about 60,000 tons of uranium is below the surface to approximately 800 feet. In 1983 the Virginia General Assembly, seeking to protect the public health and environment, banned uranium mining in Virginia. Continue reading

2011 Argenta Oreana Bombers Invitational Bass Tournament

April 9 2011 – The 2nd Annual Argenta Oreana Bombers Invitational Bass Tournament took place on April 9, 2011 at Clinton Lake in Clinton, Illinois.  There were 66 Illinois High School bass fishing teams entered from throughout Illinois.  Entrants included teams from the following schools:  Argenta Oreana, Maroa Forsyth, Oswego East, Champaign Centennial, Fisher, Okaw Valley, Monticello, Mt. Zion, Meridian, Normal West, Gibson City, Atwood Hammond, Clinton, West Prairie, Champaign Central, Decatur Eisenhower, Bishop McNamara, Eureka, Mahomet-Seymour, Leroy, New Trier, Midland, El Paso Gridley, St. Joe Ogden, Sandwich, Naperville Central, & Riverton.  Each high school team consisted of a boat captain and two student anglers.  Student anglers’ fish were only allowed to be weighed for competition. Marble Falls High School SAF Club Gets Rolling in Texas!

For Bryan and Lorna Ellis, the experience of taking their son, Austin, to the NGJWC last August on Lake Lanier, GA sparked the desire to start a SAF High School Fishing Team in Marble Falls, Texas. Their dream became a reality on January 31, 2011 when they registered their club and 15 student members from 3 different schools in the surrounding community. The best gift came when Toby Tucker agreed to be the Club Advisor while living over 70 miles away!   Continue reading
