Can We Help Silver Lake?

I am no expert on Silver Lake. This article contains information I gathered from WDFW employees, long-time residents of the Silver Lake and Cowlitz County area, and fisher folk that have fished there for 40+ years. Thanks especially to Willie Nelson and Don Berry.

 

Silver Lake bass fishing is not what it used to be. In a nutshell, Silver Lake suffers from water quality problems; blue-green algae, excessive phosphorous, failing septic systems, possible stormwater pollution, an adjacent landfill on the South, very little submerged vegetation, and turbidity. No simple answer to the water quality problem overall, so this article is about one problem; the lack of former native submerged vegetation. Continue reading

The Bass Federation, FLW Launch High School Fishing Expansion for 2014

PONCA CITY, Okla. (January 16, 2014) – Since the national introduction of High School Fishing by The Bass Federation (TBF) and FLW under the Student Angler Federation (SAF) umbrella in 2011, participation has more than doubled each year and three states (Kentucky, New Hampshire and Missouri) have joined Illinois in sanctioning bass fishing as an official high school sport. To accommodate rapidly growing demand, SAF will expand its slate of national High School Fishing events and enhance its existing lineup of state and conference championships in 2014. Cabela’s Announces Plans for Bowling Green, Ky., Cabela’s Outpost Store

CabelasCabela’s Incorporated (NYSE:CAB), the World’s Foremost Outfitter of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, announced today plans to open a 42,000-square-foot Cabela’s Outpost store in Bowling Green, Ky.

The store will be Cabela’s second in Kentucky – joining the Louisville location – and is scheduled to open in the fall of 2014. It will be located at the intersection of Scottsdale Road and Ken Bale Boulevard near Sam’s Club. Continue reading

Founder of the Tennessee Bass Federation Passes Away

Bob Big Fish 2009 001Ponca City, Okla., (December 3, 2013) – Bob Agnew from Chattanooga, Tenn., passed away Sunday night. Agnew was the founder and first president of the Tennessee Bass Federation from 1973 to 1975, and a longtime member of TBF’s first club, the Chattanooga Bass Club, still club number 001. He was also a current member of Hixson Memorial Bass Club.

Agnew competed in many Tennessee state tournaments and was still actively fishing club events. He was always recognized at those events. His impact on the Tennessee Bass Federation as well as the nation federation will not be forgotten, and his presence will truly be missed.
