The home team advantage swoops in with the Kansas State Team lead by Jeff Brin, from Olathe, Kansas. The wind calmed down today, but anglers still had trouble hooking the bite on day two of the 2011 Central Division Championship on Wilson Lake in Russell County, Kansas. “Wilson’s such a healthy fishery with numerous small fish,” TBF President and tournament weighmaster, Robert Cartlidge, said. “It’s a great sign the Kansas Parks and Wildlife is doing their job to maintain the fishery for years to come.” The anglers had more trouble than yesterday landing the big bite out there. But, fishing was tough across the board for all our 96 TBF anglers. 12 anglers representing each of the eight states traveled to compete with the best of the best and the final day will decided the 16 anglers who will advance to the national contest. There they’ll vie for thousands in cash and prizes, in addition to, the “Living the Dream” prize package that includes paid entry fees on the FLW Tour for a year with use of a wrapped Chevrolet Truck and Ranger Boat. The wind and the weights were down today; tomorrow the anglers are looking to change that and their fates as we’ll crown the

Jeff Brin climbed up the board today from third to seize the top spot in the individual standings. Brin had a limit of bass weighing 10lbs 4ounces to make his tournament total 21lb 4ounces. “It was a little bit tougher out there today,” Brin said. “Fishing wasn’t real fast; I caught one in the morning and about an hour later I hit the spot again and found another.” Brin caught a solid 11lb stringer yesterday to help his team and give him prime placement today to take the lead. “I caught all my fish in two spots, just going back and forth, back and forth, all day.” Brin’s partner, Buddy French, from Monticello, Miss., also caught three keepers today. “Buddy’s a really good guy to fish with. I was really trying towards the end to put him on his fish so he could get a limit, he found three, but we just couldn’t find two more.” Tomorrow, Brin is hoping for mild 10-15mphr winds. “Just enough, but not too much would be good. I think everyone’s gonna have a tough day if the wind is bad; the guy with the best day tomorrow is probably gonna win it. But, main thing is Kansas.
The Kansas State Team was in second, less than two pounds behind Texas yesterday. Today, they closed the gap and then some with 84lb 6ounces making their tournament total 148lb 11ounces. “Kansas coming from behind to take the lead, that’s what matters,” Brin said. “Everyone on our team has different spots and the high winds really hurt some of our team yesterday.” Tomorrow, the forecast is calling for a windy day so we’ll see if the Kansas State team, aching to win their first Central Division Championship, can hold on and put all the home team advantage clichés to rest. Seven other TBF state teams are determined not to let that happen. They all want a piece of the pie, and their share of the glory. We’ll see tomorrow as the final day of the 2011 Central Division Championship comes to a close on Wilson Lake in Russell County, Kansas.
