September 16, 2010 – It appears that Lake Champlain was very good to our TBF Anglers today in the Eastern Division Championship. Nearly 900 pounds of bass were weighed in today by the Eastern Division State Team Members. All but 5 of the 96 anglers weighed in fish today.
Vermont Angler, Tim Austin took the lead today in the overall standings at the 2010 Eastern Division Championship on Lake Champlain. Austin weighed in a monstrous 20lb 4 oz bag today, which launched him from 13th place yesterday, to 1st place today. “It was slow and tedious, but it paid off. It took all day to catch my limit,” said Austin. He used his anchor a lot so he didn’t have to worry about controlling the trolling motor. He was fishing in about 18’ of water with a Carolina Rig. Austin has a 2 day total of 34 lbs even, a 2 lb 5 oz lead over Bruce Acox of NH. Austin is in 1st place for the state of Vermont, a nearly 4 lb lead over yesterday’s VT leader, Frank Scalise.
But according to yesterday’s leader, Bruce Acox, for him, fishing wasn’t as good as yesterday. “Today was tougher than yesterday. I only had 1 fish by 12:30. We went to a different spot and started culling by 1:30.” Acox weighed in a limit that weighed 12 lbs 13 oz, nearly 6 lbs less than yesterday. But that was still good enough to keep him in 2nd place overall, and still in the lead for his state of New Hampshire. When asked what tomorrow’s plan will be, he said “I’m going to hit some spots that have been successful for me”.
The race for NH Federation Contenders, Acox has only a 6 oz lead over the 2nd place NH team member, Donald Gagnon. Acox represented NH last year as a boater. Gagnon is currently in 4th place in the overall standings.
Massachusetts Angler, David McNary had another great day and is still in a good spot at 3rd place, same as yesterday. He’s got a 2 day total of 31-06. He is also successfully in 1st place for his State Team standings.
In the State Standings, Team Vermont has taken a 38 lb commanding lead over Mass. with a 2-Day total of 289 lbs 6 oz. Team Massachusetts had a little bit tougher day today. Their 2 day team total is 251-03. They will have some ground to make up tomorrow if they want to take home the State Team leader trophy.
As all the anglers go out the final day tomorrow, a lot will be at stake for them. The top 2 anglers from each State Federation will qualify for the 2011 TBF National Championship next spring. The top angler from each state will have a shot at being the ‘Living the Dream’ Angler and representing TBF on the FLW Tour and 2011 BFL All-American & Forrest Wood Cup in Hot Springs, AR. The 2nd place angler of each state will have a chance to win the top Co-Angler spot and will also fish in the BFL All-American and 2011 Forrest Wood Cup.
